Estate Litigation Lawyer, 4+ years' PAE

We have an exciting opportunity for a lawyer with 4+ years’ experience post admission to join our Estate Group.

KCL Law’s Estate Group has extensive expertise in all areas of estate-related litigation and has strong relationships with many accountants, financial planners, family offices and trustee companies including some of Melbourne’s most prominent.

The ideal candidate will have at least four years' experience in estate litigation, including family provision claims, contested estate and capacity disputes, trust disputes, administration and guardianship disputes and related matters. You will also have knowledge and experience in VCAT proceedings relating to guardianship and administration matters, including applications to VCAT for the appointment of guardians and administrators and related hearings.

In this role, you will be mentored and supported by the teams principal and senior lawyers on a range of estate and trust litigation and administration and guardianship matters.

Personal attributes essential for this role include excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with clients clearly and confidently. You will show an interest in business development with the ability to establish and maintain strong client relationships.

Commercial and Corporate Lawyer, 3-5 years' PAE

We have an excellent opportunity for a lawyer with 3 to 5 years’ experience post admission to join our well-established Commercial and Corporate team. You will be mentored by four senior lawyers with a broad range of industry experience who undertake a diverse range of work.

Our clients are highly regarded companies and groups including family offices, boutique funds, software companies, national e-commerce platforms, global brands and transport and logistics companies.

The ideal candidate is someone who is personable and adept at dealing with a diverse range of clients from founders to directors of ASX-listed companies.

You will have experience with the Australian Consumer Law, the PPSR regime, sale of businesses, share sale agreements with earn-out arrangements, complex shareholder agreements, partnership of trusts, employee share plans, company secretarial work and drafting and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements.

Essential personal attributes for the role include excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You must be commercially and results oriented, and capable of assessing a client’s risk appetite' and developing novel approaches to complex commercial problems. Strong commercial drafting and negotiation skills are required.

An interest in business development and marketing would be an asset and would be fostered if initiative is shown in this area.

Construction and Infrastructure Lawyer, 4-5 years' experience

A great opportunity exists for an experienced lawyer to join our Construction and Infrastructure team at KCL Law.

Your role would predominantly be focused on front-end negotiations and contracts, and live project consulting in all areas of construction law, but also disputes management in litigation/arbitration working with experts and counsel (the full life of a construction project).

You will work on major projects involving well-known participants in the Australian construction and infrastructure industry.

Business Development and Marketing Manager

A great opportunity exists for an experienced Business Development and Marketing Manager to join KCL Law. In this role, you will work closely with the lawyers to develop and maintain strong client relationships and build on existing networks, identify opportunities and implement business development and marketing initiatives.

The responsibilities of this role will include:

  • maintaining and updating the firm’s website and social media accounts including LinkedIn;
  • creation of engaging legal content to be published;
  • drafting and finalising individual and team profiles, award submissions, capability statements, tenders and legal articles;
  • working closely with the lawyers to establish and maintain business development plans and marketing material;
  • managing sponsorship opportunities and professional memberships;
  • maintaining and updating the firms mailing list and contacts;
  • internal and external event management including breakfast seminars and client lunches and seminars;
  • drafting and publishing both internal and external communications;
  • identifying and implementing marketing and BD initiatives suitable for the firm; and
  • managing firm branded materials.

To be successful, you will have at least six years’ experience in a similar role, ideally in a professional services firm. Experience in a legal firm is highly regarded.

You will be client-focused, proactive and show initiative in exploring opportunities to develop and grow the firm’s client base, provide strategic recommendations and have the ability to deliver quality outcomes. You will have strong time management and organisational skills ensuring deadlines are met. Clear and effective communication skills (both written and oral), attention-to-detail and the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively are essential for this role.

People and Culture Manager

A great opportunity exists for a People and Culture Manager to join KCL Law. Reporting to the General Manager, you will be responsible for the planning, developing and management of human resources policies and procedures. You will work closely with the General Manager and Principal Lawyers to maintain and build on the firms culture and review and develop firm initiatives to maintain employee engagement.

Responsibilities of this role will include:

  • managing the end-to-end recruitment function for all new employees including writing and posting job advertisements, liaising with recruitment agencies, reviewing applications, shortlisting and interviewing candidates and conducting reference checks;
  • preparation of employment agreements;
  • coordinate and conduct probationary reviews and provide feedback to supervisors;
  • managing workflow of secretarial staff and resources for lawyers;
  • managing First Aid officers and annual training;
  • managing and scheduling CPD sessions for lawyers and ensuring compliance;
  • management of induction and training for all new employees;
  • management of on-boarding and off-boarding for all staff;
  • involvement in the annual performance reviews for all employees;
  • provide recommendations and feedback for annual salary reviews;
  • maintaining and updating firm policies and procedures ensuring the firm is compliant with all relevant Acts and Awards;
  • managing Covid-19 processes and policies; and
  • managing the balance between working from home and the office.

The successful candidate will have considerable experience as a People and Culture Manager ideally in a law firm or professional services firm. You will have knowledge and an understanding of the Fair Work Act as well as the Legal Services Award.

The People and Culture Manager will be responsible for the broader Practice Support Group who will report directly to the People and Culture Manager.

You will possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, high attention-to-detail and the ability to work both autonomously and as a team. The ability to act with complete confidentiality and discretion is essential for this role.

HR Administrator

A great opportunity exists for an ambitious HR Administrator to join KCL Law. Reporting directly to the People and Culture Manager, this person will be responsible for all HR administration and will assist both the People and Culture Manager and General Manager.

In this diverse role, you will be able to broaden and develop your HR skills working closely with and assisting the People and Culture Manager and General Manager. You will be the first point of contact for HR related enquires from staff and assist in the day-to-day coordination and running of the HR functions including workflow, up-keep of HR records, scheduling of meetings for the People and Culture Manager and General Manager and various admin duties as required.

Responsibilities of this role will include:

  • general secretarial duties for the HR team;
  • co-ordinating and assisting with staff induction;
  • facilitating the on and off-boarding processes;
  • assisting with staff recruitment;
  • assisting with the annual performance review process;
  • managing leave records for all staff;
  • managing professional records for all lawyers including Practising Certificates, Legal Services Board and LIV renewals and memberships; and
  • maintaining and updating staff files.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 18 months admin experience ideally in a legal or professional services firm, and experience in a similar position with exposure to HR is highly regarded.

To be considered for this role you must have a positive attitude, good time management skills, exceptional attention-to-detail and excellent communication skills are essential. You will demonstrate the ability to take initiative and prioritise tasks effectively and ensure you act with complete confidentiality and discretion.

Float Legal Secretary

We have a great opportunity for a legal secretary to join our firm on a full-time or part-time basis.

As the float secretary, you will provide support across the firm's departments including Commercial and Corporate, Construction and Infrastructure, Employment and Workplace Relations, Estate Group, Family Law, Intellectual Property and IT, Litigation and Dispute Resolution and Property.

Your duties will include:

  • file management such as filing of documents in iManage;
  • dictations using BigHand;
  • e-Court filing;
  • preparation of Counsel briefs;
  • client liaison;
  • monthly billing using Affinity practice management system;
  • entering client data into Affinity;
  • scheduling of appointments;
  • reception cover as required; and
  • general administrative tasks such as photocopying and printing when required.

Ideally, the successful candidate will have at least three years’ experience as a legal secretary. You must be adaptable and organised when working across a number of teams, have a positive attitude, exceptional time management skills incorporating attention-to-detail and excellent communication skills.

A team player with a positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills are essential.
