Lawyer, 2-3 years’ experience  

A great opportunity exists at KCL Law for a lawyer with 2-3 years post qualification experience who has a keen interest in pursuing a career in construction and infrastructure law and working in a great and supportive team.

Our experienced Construction and Infrastructure team will work with and train you in all aspects of construction and infrastructure law and help you build your skills and personal network in the industry. You will have the opportunity to work with the partners and have direct client contact. The team is friendly, easy going, passionate about the industry and focused on developing lawyers and building confidence.

The role

Construction and infrastructure law is fast paced, dynamic and one of the few industry-based laws in which long-lasting client relationships are fostered and you will get the opportunity to work with clients from project inception to delivery and beyond.

In this role, you will get to experience the full spectrum of construction and infrastructure law including transactions, contract drafting and negotiation, project claims consulting, and (if you have interest) litigation of which there is plenty of opportunity. You will be trained in all areas of front-end construction law and project consulting including drafting and negotiating contracts, advising on all aspects of risk allocation, variations, extensions of time, latent / site conditions (claims and assessments) and prolongation and delay damages claims.

Contract types will include tenders, building contracts, consultants’ agreements and deeds. Any experience or exposure to any form of contract drafting and negotiation or contract interpretation will assist you in this aspect of the role.

Areas of litigation in which the team can also build your skills if you choose would include pre-litigation advice and pursuing overseas companies, pleadings and discovery, briefing and instructing Counsel, Senior Counsel and experts and evidence/facts investigation and negotiating and preparing settlement agreements / deeds including guarantees and indemnities.

The team will work with you to develop your skills in other areas that interact with construction law such as insurance, proportionate liability, equity, security of payment legislation and negligence.

The candidate

To be considered for this role you do not need to have construction law experience. However, we are looking for someone that is conscientious and versatile, has excellent communication skills (written and oral) and a keen interest in building relationships with clients, and networking which will occur organically.

Your enjoyment of this role will be complemented with your skills and interests including contract drafting and interpretation, contract negotiation, working with clients throughout projects to advise on and prepare claims, notices and advices, dispute avoidance and settlements and only if required and if you are interested, involvement in the development of dispute resolution and litigation/arbitration and briefing of experts and counsel.

Commercial and Corporate Lawyer, 3-5 years' PAE

We have an excellent opportunity for a lawyer to join our well established Commercial and Corporate team.

Our clients are highly regarded companies and groups across various industries, including IT, e-commerce, retail and transport.

We are seeking a lawyer with 3 to 5 years’ experience post admission. You will ideally have experience with the Australian Consumer Law, the PPSR regime, sale of businesses, complex shareholder agreements, partnership of trusts, employee share plans, company secretarial work and distribution contracts and associated drafting and negotiations.

The successful candidate must have strong commercial drafting and negotiation skills and a strong knowledge of the Corporations Act.

Construction and Infrastructure Paralegal

A great opportunity exists for a paralegal with a strong interest in construction and infrastructure law to join KCL Law.

KCL Law’s Construction and Infrastructure team act for some of Australia’s largest residential property developers, commercial and industrial builders, civil contractors and engineers and has a particular focus on risk minimisation by providing strategic legal advice through the entire duration of a project.

In this position you will work under the guidance of the lawyers in the team and be mentored on a range of construction and infrastructure matters. The successful candidate must be studying law and have a reasonably strong academic transcript. Previous Seasonal Clerkship experience is beneficial.

Construction and Infrastructure Lawyer, 4-5 years' experience

A great opportunity exists for an experienced lawyer to join our Construction and Infrastructure team at KCL Law.

Your role would predominantly be focused on front-end negotiations and contracts, and live project consulting in all areas of construction law, but also disputes management in litigation/arbitration working with experts and counsel (the full life of a construction project).

You will work on major projects involving well-known participants in the Australian construction and infrastructure industry.

Our expanding team will be complemented by a new team member who is keen, confident, quick-thinking and reasonably autonomous and committed to strive for excellence in a team environment.

There will be ample opportunities to build on existing networks to develop your own practice with the strong and ongoing support of the team’s Principal Lawyers.

Owners Corporation Lawyer, 4+ years' PAE

We have an exciting opportunity for a hardworking, enthusiastic lawyer to join our Owners Corporation practice.

KCL Law focuses on having a team of legal experts with a wealth of industry and professional experience, forming partnerships with our clients and building long-term relationships with them. Over the last few years, we have successfully built a practice within the Owners Corporation industry, primarily working for Owners Corporations and their managers.

We are seeking a lawyer with 4 years’ experience post admission who has knowledge and involvement in Owners Corporation matters. Ideally, you will have had some experience in litigation, levy collection matters and compliance advice, as well as leasing, licensing, plans of subdivision and providing advice on Owners Corporations Act and Subdivision Act matters.

Essential personal attributes for the role include excellent communication (written and oral skills), strong interpersonal and organisational skills, and the ability to work in a team environment and to communicate with clients professionally and confidently.
