Commercial and Corporate Lawyer, 3 to 5 years' PAE

We have an excellent opportunity for a commercial lawyer with 3 to 5 years’ post admission experience to join our Commercial and Corporate team.

Our clients are highly regarded companies and groups across various industries, including IT, e-commerce, retail and transport.

Ideally, you will have experience with the Australian Consumer Law, the PPSR regime, sale of businesses, complex shareholder agreements, partnership of trusts, employee share plans, company secretarial work and distribution contracts and associated drafting and negotiations.

The successful candidate must have strong commercial drafting and negotiation skills, and a strong knowledge of the Corporations Act.

Essential personal attributes for the role include excellent communication and interpersonal skills, aptitude for providing commercial legal solutions, a keen interest in business development and building strong client relationships.

Commercial Litigation Lawyer, 4+ years' PAE

As our Litigation and Dispute Resolution team continues to grow, there is an exciting opportunity for an experienced lawyer to join the team.

We are seeking an experienced practitioner with approximately 4+ years' PAE in commercial litigation. Ideally, you will have had exposure to a range of areas including the rules of civil procedure in all major courts, the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth), partnership and shareholder disputes, insolvency (corporate and personal), property and lease disputes (including retail leases), competition and consumer law (including the ACL), professional indemnity, defamation and insurance coverage disputes.

Construction and Infrastructure Senior Associate/Special Counsel (Front-end and/or Back-end), 7+ years' PAE

A great opportunity exists for a Senior Associate or Special Counsel level lawyer to join our Construction and Infrastructure team.

While predominantly focused on 'back-end' dispute resolution, in this role you will be immediately exposed to 'top-tier' type litigation and arbitration on major projects involving major participants in the construction and infrastructure space, along with adjudications and judicial reviews under the Security of Payment Act.

Legal Secretary — Construction and Infrastructure

We have an opportunity for a capable legal secretary to join our firm supporting three lawyers in our Construction and Infrastructure team, as well as providing administrative assistance across the firm when required.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • taking instructions and completing tasks with minimal assistance;
  • ensuring work is accurate and on time;
  • file management;
  • filing and service of documents;
  • diary management and control of deadlines;
  • client liaison;
  • monthly billing using Affinity practice management system;
  • entering client data into Affinity; and
  • general administrative tasks such as photocopying, opening/closing files and binding documents.

We are looking for an experienced secretary who has a professional telephone manner and is comfortable in dealing with clients and taking accurate instructions.

The successful candidate must have a positive attitude, exceptional time management skills, attention-to-detail and excellent communication skills. A team player with strong interpersonal skills is essential.

Accounts Administrator (part-time)

An opportunity exists for a highly motivated individual to join our Finance team on a part-time basis.

We are currently seeking an experienced Accounts Administrator who will be responsible for assisting in managing the finance and accounting functions within the firm.  

To be considered for this role, you must have a solid understanding of the Trust Accounting rules, be technically proficient in the completion of reconciliations, and have the ability to set priorities and manage a variety of tasks simultaneously.

Reporting to and under the direction of the Finance Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • processing accounts payable, including disbursements and office expenses;
  • processing all credit card expenses and completion of monthly reconciliations for a number of credit cards;
  • maintenance of Controlled Money accounts, including administering opening and closure of accounts as required;
  • maintenance of the dormant balances register, including arranging refunds to clients and/or payments to the State Revenue Office;
  • responding to queries from internal staff as required;
  • creating files and maintaining filing system for the Finance team;
  • assisting with the annual Trust Account audit; and
  • other adhoc projects and duties as delegated by the Finance Manager.

The successful candidate must have relevant tertiary qualification with a major study in Accounting and 3 to 5 years’ experience.  In addition to being a team player with a positive attitude and strong interpersonal skills, they must have exceptional time management skills, high attention-to-detail and excellent communication skills. Prior experience with Microsoft suite packages and strong Excel skills are required.  Knowledge of the Affinity Practice management system would be highly regarded but not essential.

Credit Controller (6 month contract)

We are currently seeking an experienced Credit Controller on a 6 month contract to be responsible for the collection of client debts, with the view of obtaining immediate payment or negotiating payment arrangements.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • debtor management;
  • following-up overdue debts with clients;
  • preparation and maintenance of debtor reports;
  • liaising with lawyers internally as to the status of client debt;
  • coordinate and negotiate the collection of outstanding monies;
  • preparation of monthly client statements, demand letters and payment arrangements when required;
  • frequently review overdue accounts;
  • reconciliation of clients’ accounts; and
  • responding to client queries and requests.

To be considered for this role, you must have a good understanding of credit control and debtor management, and had experience working in a law firm. A positive attitude, strong time management skills, high attention-to-detail and excellent communication skills are essential. You should be highly confident in handling difficult situations and possess a good telephone manner.  A team player with strong interpersonal skills are a must.
