Legal roles

Junior Lawyer, 1 year contract

A unique opportunity exists for a junior lawyer looking to advance their career with a 1 year contract role.

We are currently seeking a junior lawyer who has recently been admitted. In this position, you will work under the guidance of Principal Lawyers and be mentored on a range of matters across various areas of law.

While working across all general areas of law, there will be an emphasis on corporate and commercial, intellectual property, wills and estates, employment and family law.

Essential personal attributes for the role include excellent communication (written and oral skills), strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work in a team environment and the confidence to communicate with clients. A well-presented individual with a good attitude is a must.

Finance and Commercial Lawyer, 5+ years' PAE

An exciting opportunity exists for a talented finance and corporate transactional lawyer, with at least 5 years’ PAE, to join this dynamic, professional and friendly team as an Associate or Senior Associate.

As a valued member of a high performing team, you will enjoy working for borrowers and lenders in property and structured finance, acquisition finance and general corporate finance.

Our clients include banks and other institutional and quasi-institutional lenders, private family businesses, investors, developers, corporate and personal borrowers and guarantors.

Our team also undertakes a significant amount of general corporate and commercial work (including transactional mergers and acquisitions) and a candidate with both finance and general corporate transactional experience (or at least a candidate looking for that mix of work) will be preferred.

Building and Construction Senior Associate (front-end and back-end), 10+ years' PAE

This is a great opportunity for a building and construction lawyer at a Senior Associate or Special Counsel level who is looking to join our growing team. With the support of the Principal Lawyer and Head of the Building and Construction practice, the ideal candidate will be keen to build networks and develop their own practice. A transferable client base is an advantage and you will be recognised for any practice that you may bring with you.

Requiring an experienced practitioner, the role will be a mix of front-end building and construction and back-end litigation. Strong drafting skills and knowledge of AS4300 and AS2124 are required.

Property Senior Associate, 10+ years' PAE

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced, ambitious and highly professional lawyer looking to advance their career in a dynamic and growing practice.

KCL Law’s Property team are dynamic and astute and have experience advising on a broad range of property matters, including major development projects, commercial transactions and leasing and residential transactions.

We are seeking an experienced practitioner with approximately 10 years' PAE in property law to join our team. Together with solid technical and drafting skills, the successful candidate will have a strong knowledge of, and experience in, drafting and negotiating contracts of sale, commercial leases, development agreements, joint venture agreements, due diligence, acquisitions and disposals, and commercial landlord and tenant work.

Owners Corporation Lawyer, 4+ years' PAE

As our property and general litigation practices continue to grow, there is an exciting opportunity for a hardworking, enthusiastic lawyer to join our Owners Corporation practice.

KCL Law focuses on having a team of legal experts with a wealth of industry and professional experience, forming partnerships with our clients and building long-term relationships with them. In the last three years, we have successfully built a practice within the Owners Corporation industry, primarily working for owners corporations and their managers. We are now looking for an experienced lawyer to synergise and continue our success in this area.

You will have matter management responsibility and substantial experience in litigation advice, debt recovery and compliance, as well as leasing, licencing, common property and subdivisions. You will have at least a small referral network and the initiative to continually build upon this. We are looking for someone who is as comfortable working autonomously, as well as in a team environment.

Please note, that a strong knowledge of the Owners Corporations Act is required for this position.

Support roles

Commercial Legal Secretary

We have an opportunity for a capable and experienced legal secretary to join our firm supporting lawyers within our Commercial and Corporate team, as well as providing administrative assistance across the firm when required.

Responsibilities of the role include:

  • taking instructions and completing tasks with minimal assistance;
  • ensuring work is accurate and on time, every time;
  • file management;
  • dictaphone typing including correspondence and file notes;
  • diary management and control of deadlines;
  • client liaison;
  • knowledge of Australian Securities Investments Commission (ASIC) relating to formatting;
  • online searches, including index, business name and company, bankruptcy and title, rate and planning certificates etc;
  • filing and service of documents;
  • monthly billing using Affinity practice management system;
  • entering client data into Affinity;
  • general administrative tasks including photocopying, opening/closing files and binding documents.

The successful candidate must be an experienced legal secretary who is highly motivated, has a professional telephone manner, and is comfortable in dealing with clients and taking accurate instructions.

Essential for the role is a positive attitude, exceptional time management skills incorporating attention-to-detail and excellent communication skills. A team player with strong interpersonal skills are a must.
