Marcus Best is a Principal Lawyer in the M&A / Commercial & Corporate practice. Marcus’ practice includes providing legal counsel and advisory services to clients primarily in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, equity capital markets, private equity, corporate HQ advisory and governance, projects and infrastructure. 

With over 30 years’ experience in legal and corporate advisory, Marcus has advised clients on more than 200 transactions, including complex mergers and acquisitions, IPOs and other equity capital markets transactions, private equity and infrastructure projects. 

Prior to joining KCL Law, Marcus worked for Minter Ellison for over 30 years, where he served as a Partner for over 20 years, advising boards and senior executives on a range of corporate transactions, governance and regulatory matters, crisis management, and shareholder activism. 

Marcus’s approach to his practice is characterised by his flexible and agile thinking, proven capacity to offer commercially strategic insight, and ability to manage resolution of complex commercial issues. He focuses on building long-term relationships with clients and stakeholders, while providing tailored advice to meet their specific needs and objectives.  

Marcus is the author and editor of respected handbooks on International Securities laws and has presented on developments in M&A and foreign investment law. 

Marcus was admitted to practice in 1990. He joined KCL Law as a Principal Lawyer in March 2024. Marcus is a member of the Law Institute of Victoria.
