KCL Law is delighted to announce its continued support of Eat Up Australia as ‘State Partner’ in 2021.
Eat Up Australia is a not-for-profit organisation providing lunches to disadvantaged primary and high school children who would otherwise go without. The organisation relies heavily on sponsorship support, financial donations and the generosity of volunteers to make thousands of lunches that Eat Up Australia deliver to schools across Australia. Since 2013, Eat Up Australia have delivered over 1 million lunches to over 496 schools in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.
According to Eat Up Australia, 1 in 8 Australian children arrive at school hungry every day compromising their learning ability. Without lunch a child’s concentration is compromised, reducing the ability to learn.
Last year, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic Eat Up Australia had to overcome various obstacles in order to continue to feed hungry children. With many children learning remotely, and volunteer sessions on hold due to social distancing, Eat Up Australia stepped up to the challenge by delivering over 18,000 food boxes to families doing it tough.
In 2021, Eat Up Australia is looking to increase its reach across Australia by expanding into the Northern Territory and Western Australia. Pending funding, they hope to provide emergency food boxes beyond the school holidays, making it an ongoing program. In Victoria, Eat Up Australia expect to provide 160,000 lunches to students and over 4,000 food boxes.
KCL Law has supported Eat Up Australia since 2016 when we first volunteered, holding the first corporate sandwich making session. KCL Law formalised its support of Eat Up Australia as a ‘State Partner’ in 2020.
