Estate Group update: Proposed changes allowing access to super for terminally ill patients

May 13, 2015

Proposed effective date: 1 July 2015

Under current law, patients must have two doctors (including a specialist) certify that they are likely to die within one year to access their superannuation when terminally ill.

The government proposes to change this period to two years, giving terminally ill patients earlier access to their superannuation.
